Craig’s Coffee: A Roastery Built on Craft and Experience

We’re excited to feature Craig’s Coffee, a Detroit-based roastery founded by coffee professional Craig Batory in the historic Cass Corridor neighborhood. Craig’s journey into coffee began in 2010 while attending university in Los Angeles, where he learned the fundamentals of roasting and sourcing green coffee while working with Alana’s Coffee Roasters. That early experience sparked a long career in specialty coffee.

Over the years, Craig continued refining his craft at Caffe Luxxe in Santa Monica, trained in David Schomer’s espresso extraction methods, and later worked in coffee media with publications like Daily Coffee News and Barista Magazine. He also served as Quality Assurance Manager at Mr. Espresso in Oakland, where he evaluated and cupped dozens of coffees daily to maintain quality and explore new offerings.

Building Craig’s Coffee in Detroit

In 2020, Craig launched Craig’s Coffee as a small roasting project from his Detroit basement. What started as roasting for friends and family quickly grew into a full-time roastery serving customers through wholesale, online orders, and subscriptions. Today, Craig’s Coffee reflects years of dedication to quality roasting and a deep passion for the specialty coffee community.

Packaging Crafted for Freshness

This pouch provides strong barrier protection to preserve aroma and freshness, while the one-way degassing valve allows coffee to release gas after roasting.
